I'm the new TA!

Sí, soy la nueva TA (Teacher Assistant) para la clase de Photoshop del City College de San Francisco.

Sabía que Denise, mi profesora de Photoshop, daba clases en el barrio de Mission, mi barrio. Así que el sábado me dio por ofrecerme a ayudarle si lo necesitaba, a lo que ella me contestó con un gesto de cara que venía a decir "Oh, Dios mío, esto es un milagro", y aunque yo no entendía muy bien esa reacción, me alegró saber que Denise estaba encantada con mi oferta.

La TA es la encargada de ayudar a la profesora. Para clases donde se requiere un ordenador, resulta de tremenda ayuda ya que normalmente, y al ser un centro público, se juntan muchos niveles de diferentes tipos, desde el que no sabe manejar un ordenador Mac, al que no sabe cómo seleccionar una capa trabajando con una imagen.

Mi sorpresa ha sido encontrarme en una minihabitación con más de 20 ordenadores... El City College es un centro subvencionado por el Ayuntamiento de la ciudad que imparte clases de todo tipo para personas con menos recursos. Generalmente son clases muy baratas y el nivel de enseñanza es bastante bueno.

Así que hoy era mi primer día y la verdad, es de las mejores cosas que he hecho en mucho tiempo.

Ha sido duro, porque atender (en inglés, por supuesto)a 20 personas con un nivel bajísimo de Photoshop al mismo tiempo que tienes que seguir la clase para saber responder las preguntas que te hacen... pues no es nada fácil. No negaré que tiene sus momentos de estrés... pero también he de admitir que he observado cómo los estudiantes me miran diferente, me ven como a lo que ellos aspiran y me agradecen infinitamente que les devuelva al punto de origen cuando se ven totalmente perdidos.

Al acabar la clase, todo han sido palabras de agradecimiento hacia mí, y eso es algo, que lo creais o no, significa mucho para mí.

Yes, I am the new Photoshop's TA (Teacher Assistant) in the City College of San Francisco.
I knew Denise teached on the Mission Campus of the City College, close to my home. So, last Saturday, I offered myself to help her in case that she needed and she answered me making a face that sounded like "Oh my God!". Even though I couldn't understand why yet, she was really happy with my offer.
The TA is encharged of helping the teacher. In classes where computers are used, they are really useful because of the different kind of people and levels that you can find in the same class.
My surprise was to find a tiny little class where more than 20 people were trying to learn the program. The City College is a public school where people with less income can take cheap classes.
Today was my first day and honestly, it has been one of the most fullness things I've done in a long time.
It has been also tough, because everybody have lots of questions that I have to be able to answer trying to follow the class at the same time.

I like how people look at me thinking that they will end up being like me. It's a really good feeling.
At the end of the class, everybody had just good words for me, and believe it or not, that's priceless.
